Meet the Keeyora Crew: Joel Cheesman
Q: CAN YOU TELL EVERYONE ABOUT YOURSELF, AND WHAT YOU DO?
A: I'm Joel! With over 20 years of experience in the field, work has taken me all over the world! I have an award-winning industry blog called Cheezhead and a podcast called The Chad & Cheese Podcast. I currently reside in Indianapolis and am married with three children.
Q: NOW CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF, ONLY USING EMOJIS?
A: 🧀 🤔 🥃 🎙 🇺🇸 🍺
Q: WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING OR PODCASTS ARE YOU LISTENING TO THESE DAYS?
A: Listening to Pivot, Foundering and Planet Money. Having a 3-year-old makes reading books nearly impossible..
Q: WHAT ARE THREE THINGS PEOPLE WOULD NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A:
1) I first made money as an 8-year-old recycling aluminum cans I’d collect from a nearby golf course.
2) My dad put me in ballet when I was 6-years-old because football players like Lynn Swann were doing it at the time
3) I hold my high school’s single-season record for best free throw percentage (91.7%)
Q: WHAT DO YOU DO PROFESSIONALLY? HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED WITH THE KEEYORA TEAM?
A: I have my hands in a lot of different projects. Mainly, you can find me at a podcast called The Chad & Cheese Podcast, but I dream of making SaaS millions with Ratedly, and newly launched Poach.ai. At Keeyora, I am an advisor on the team. All great tools if I must say so myself!
Q: WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO GET INVOLVED WITH KEEYORA?
A: I like getting involved in tech companies with a bright future, as well as engaging with interesting folks I like being around. Bonus points if said team enjoys Nashville hot chicken and Canadian beer.
Q: WHAT MAKES YOU THE MOST EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF KEEYORA?
A: The team of quality individuals who understand recruiting and how technology plays into success.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE NEW STARTUPS IN THE TECH/HR RECRUITENT SPACE?
A: Embrace the long game! The industry rarely moves in sync with fast-moving tech, but usually, eventually catches-up.
Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MAJOR TRENDS THAT YOU’RE PREDICTING FOR THE FUTURE OF THE RECRUITMENT INDUSTRY?
A: Automation, Intelligence and Mobile seem to be trends worth betting on, and the pandemic has only served as an accelerant for these businesses. With recruiters getting laid-off due to COVID, employers who were on the fence about tech will embrace the trends above as the economy comes back to life. Things like scheduling and sourcing will be more automated, big data and artificial intelligence will help businesses make smarter decisions much faster and mobile messaging via SMS, or automated chatbots will be where a lot of future growth reside.
Q: IF WE PUT ALL THE RECRUITMENT KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, BLOGGERS, AND THOUGHT LEADERS IN A WWE STYLE ROYAL RUMBLE WOULD WE BE VICTORIOUS?
A: I’ll go with Lars Schmidt, because he is dangerously laid-back and owns a wicked set of skateboards that he could break-off against your melon. And if he’s rockin’ the Movember mustache, it’s game over before it even starts. Now, if we’re talkin’ a Beerfest-style competition, Chad & Cheese would take no prisoners.
